The exhibition examines how the rules that dictate appropriate dress for women have changed over the past 250 years. There will be more than 100 day and evening garments, textiles, and accessories displayed in chronological order that illustrate the conventions for appropriate dress for a particular time of day, activity, or occasion and how these conventions continually change. The exhibition will include work by designers such as Christian Dior, Charles James, Yves Saint Laurent, and Olivier Theyskens for Rochas.

Festtøj 1909-2009

I anledning af Den Gamle Bys 100 års jubilæum trækker museet i festtøjet med en udstilling om de fester, danskerne har fejret gennem 100 år. Årets højtider er blevet fejret, både de religiøse og folkelige som julen og påsken og de politiske, som Kvindernes Internationale Kampdag 8. marts. Specielt til livets højtider som bryllup, sølvbryllup og studenterfest har danskerne taget det pæne tøj på. Mange fester f. eks. cocktail-party og havefest er blevet afholdt, fordi folk gerne vil ses og more sig. Udstillingen rummer mange forskellige slags festtøj til både mænd, kvinde og børn og accessories til festtøj. Der udkommer et katalog med cirka halvdelen af de udstillede dragter.

I Kunstindustrimuseets tekstilstudierum udstilles ca. 100 års dansk broderihistorie belyst gennem en anerkendt dansk broderivirksomhed. Udstillingen bygger på ca. 420 broderier fra perioden 1870 til 1970-80’erne fra firmaet Eva Rosenstand – Clara Wævermed tilbageblik på den Konstantin-Hansen-Bindesbøll’ske broderiforretning, hvorfra de ældste broderier og mønstre stammer.

In 1952, the couturier donated 22 dresses, 750 dress patterns and 75 photo albums to the museum. Selected from her major works between 1912 and 1939 and now restored Madame Vionnet’s collection is now on show. Displaying her extremely refined designs inspired by antique drapery.

Kaleidoscope: Antique quilts from the collection of Carole and Howard Tanenbaum

The exhibited quilts were made in the United States, Canada and England, mostly during the 19th century. They were used as bedding, as lap robes and slumber throws, and as fancy piano covers in Victorian parlours. The social messages they carried when they were made – who made them and why, for whom and under what circumstances – – have evaporated, leaving behind elaborate kaleidoscopes of colour.

Between 1912 and 1920, the Gazette du Bon Ton sought to be "the place where couturiers and painters collaborated to compose the silhouette of their time." these createurs not only illustrated the work of leading Parisian design houses, they also designed garments of their own that were featured in plates included in each publication. Through vision and uncompromising standards, the series led rather than followed and helped to blur the boundaries between art and fashion.

Embellished: The Art of Fabulous Fabrics

Grace Kelly Style: Fashion for a Hollywood Princess

Tracing the evolution of Grace Kelly’s style from her days as one of Hollywoods most popular actresses in the 1950s and as Princess Grace of Monaco, the display will present over 50 of Grace Kelly's outfits together with hats, jewellery and the original Hermès Kelly bag. Dresses from her films, including High Society, will be shown as well as the gown she wore to accept her Oscar award in 1955. These will be accompanied by film clips and posters, photographs and her Oscar statuette. The display will also include the lace ensemble worn by Grace Kelly for her civil marriage ceremony to Prince Rainier in 1956 and 35 haute couture gowns from the 1960s and 70s by her favourite couturiers Dior, Balenciaga, Givenchy, and Yves St Laurent.

Diaghilev and the Ballets Russes

This major retrospective will examine the origins, development and long term influence of the Ballets Russes, to celebrate the centenary of their first appearance in 1909. Diaghilev’s extraordinary company, which survived a twenty-year rollercoaster of phenomenal successes and crippling problems, revolutionised ballet. As importantly, Diaghilev’s use of avant-garde composers, such as Stravinsky and designers such as Bakst, Goncharova, Picasso and Matisse, made a major contribution to the introduction of Modernism.

The display at the Fashion Museum includes twenty pairs of gloves from this outstanding collection, all intricately embroidered in a variety of materials from tiny seed pearls to sparkling metal thread. Some of the gloves are patterned, some show figures and animals such as the mythological motif of ’the pelican in her piety’; all are highly decorative, and all have to be seen to be believed.

Vejle Museum har lige åbnet ny temaudstilling om L.P. Hansens Farve- og Renseri 1881-1972, hvor sønnen, Ejnar Hansen, blev landskendt for sit store arbejde med at skabe smukt afstemte farveskalaer til brug for kunsthåndværkere, skoler og institutioner.

”Tøj på kroppen” er en onlineudstilling, der på en helt ny måde præsenter en unik samling af 250 års dragter fra Kulturhistorisk Museum Randers. "Tidens Tøj" er en internetudstilling, som bygger på Nationalmuseets modedragtudstilling "Krop og Forklædning".

Den virtuelle udstilling skildrer modedragtens kulturhistorie i Danmark fra 1700-tallet til 1980'erne. De dragter, der er med i udstillingen, er alle kendetegnet ved, at de har været brugt af mennesker, der har boet i Danmark. "Tidens Tøj" giver oplysninger om den enkelte dragt, sætter dragten ind i en modehistorisk og kulturhistorisk sammenhæng og fortæller om den tid, dragten blev båret i, og så vidt muligt også om ejeren.

Museerne har en stor samling af tekstiler og i samarbejde med andre museer blev det i 2007 til en stor udstilling i Sæby.

Med dette projekt har museerne villet nå ud til så mange som muligt og hensigten har været at fortælle noget om kulturhistorie, tekstiler, håndens arbejde. Det er pædagogisk henvendt til børn og voksne. Sigtet er en formidling via dette undervisnings-materiale, som kan føre frem til en ny kommunikation ud i fremtiden.
