The Royal Collections, Amalienborg Palace
The Amalienborg Museum in Christian VIII's Palace, which opened in 1994, illustrates the history of the Glucksborg line of the Royal Family. It replaced the Oldenborg line in 1863, Christian IX being the first monarch. The older part of the Royal Collections is kept at the Rosenborg Palace.

The permanent exhibition consists of a series of private interiors from Christian IX and his descendants until 1972.
In addition the collection contains costume which belonged to members of the Royal Family, for example gowns from Christian IX's Queen Louise, Frederik VIII's Queen Lovisa, and Christian X's Queen Alexandrine. The kings' costumes are primarily uniforms. Some costume is regularly shown.

A more recent acquisition is Princess Alexandra's wedding gown. In addition the museum has recently received a generous donation of Queen Ingrid's wardrobe from Queen Margrethe II and her sisters Queen Anne-Marie of Greece and Princess Benedikte. The collection includes garments from the time Queen Ingrid came to Denmark in 1935 until her death. Pieces from this fine accession will be shown in the foreseeable future.
